Sarah Bacon, NYS licensed hiking guide #8401 and owner of The Scenic Route Guiding and Gear Rentals, spent her childhood exploring nature. Growing up on a 100 acre farm surrounded by forest in upstate NY, Sarah is no stranger to spending time in the great outdoors. Raised by two avid sportsmen and nature lovers, Sarah spent much of her childhood bushwhacking the nearby woods, making trails to her favorite secret spots, and on occasion getting herself "unlost" by the time her mother had dinner on the table.
Sarah's introduction to the High Peaks came in 1994 with an impromptu trip up the infamous Trap Dike to the summit of Mount Colden, which is recommended for only the most experienced adventurers. Being a novice to the high peaks, it was not the introduction that would cause one to fall in love. After recovering from the trauma of biting off way more than she could chew, she was determined to learn more about the area and become a responsible hiker, in order to enjoy the mountains safely.
The years that followed were spent exploring lower elevation climbs, kayaking, mastering navigation skills, and instilling a love for the outdoors in her own children. As her children got older, Sarah was able to reach her goal of becoming an Adirondack 46er and completing the Catskills 3500, both regular season and winter. In addition to many other hiking challenges, she has also finished her NEU8, which includes hiking the CL50, The Great Range, The Mahoosuc, the TCT, the Pemi Loop, the Presi, the Devil's Path and the Saranac Lake 6 in under 24 hours each.
After achieving many of her own goals, Sarah started helping others to achieve theirs. In the process, she discovered an underlying theme: women were craving outdoor adventures, but often felt intimidated to go alone, or just didn't know how to get started. There seems to be a real desire among women to tap into their wilder side, and push their physical and mental limits. As a firm believer that when women support each other, incredible things can happen, Sarah hopes that she can help other women find their path!

My name is Chelsea, some know me as Honey Badger, others as the Adirondack Honey Badger. I have lived in the high peaks area for over 7 years now, and I have been exploring them for more than 10. What brought me here? My love for the outdoors and feeling as connected to nature as possible. I feel that here. My love for the outdoors has always been there. I have found solace in nature for so long, I don't quite remember the "it" moment. Of course there are memories more grand than some, but I think only because of the level of grandeur as compared to others. Some of those first moments of pure grandeur were in Yosemite as a child. I didn't grow up with AT or PCT backpacking parents, but they were country kids - farm children who loved to travel and see great places. I eventually morphed that upbringing into a passion of my own. I have spent a good portion of my life traveling, learning and turning into the outdoors woman I am today. I have my experience, my curiosity, and my encounters with others to thank for that. What made me want to become a guide? Wow, where to start. I have always loved sharing exciting places with others. That feeling you get when you see something so amazing you connect with it. You almost become part of the scenery seeing yourself "with" the world, not just "in" it, but part of it. I became a guide because I would love to help others achieve that. I also like the idea of possibly helping those who want to learn how to be more independent, so they can feel more comfortable tackling things on their own. My explorations have brought me experience in hiking, caving, XC/BC skiing, mountain biking, thru hiking, paddling, bushwacking. There isn't much I would say no to trying. I also have a background in environmental science, so if you like rocks we can "talc". I believe my personal exploration experience mixed with my science background, and oh, did I mention I used to work with troubled youth? Probably one of my most rewarding jobs was integrating wilderness therapy for at risk youth. I am more than thrilled to be a part of The Scenic Route Guiding and Gear Rentals and work alongside Sarah and Amanda. It was the outdoor community that introduced these two amazing women into my life and I believe I can speak for all 3 of us when I say we are so excited about sharing the passion with others! Let's go for a hike!
